Old Friends and New Friends!

I always love going out in Edmonds. It's such a great time to catch up with old friends and meet some new characters as well.

I didn't think I would find a Happy Hour to write about last night but it just so happens that Rory's just started a late night Happy Hour, Monday-Thursday. Great drinks, good bar food as always and even more of a reason to get out and celebrate the holidays! Lemon drops were $5!

Now obviously with the Edmonds crowd, many would think it would be home to some folks, a bit older per se. But, if you hit it on the right night, it is a TON of fun.

Last night was our last hoorah before Christmas arrives and what a way to spend it before a few great days with the family!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Holiday Night in With a Pomegranate Cocktail? I Think So.

This morning I was opening up a pomegranate to bring some seeds to snack on at work and I thought, why not take a holiday night off and make a fun Pomegranate Cocktail?

Here are some delightful recipes...yum, don't they sound good?

Mulled Pomegranate Punch

1 cup pomegranate liqueur
4 lemons, sliced
2 oranges, sliced
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
12 whole cloves
4 cinnamon sticks
2 cups sugar
1 1/4 cup water
2 bottles red wine (Zinfandel or Pinot Noir)

Before a party, put everything into a crockpot and mix well. Leave it on low throughout your party. If you don’t own a crockpot, warm everything in a saucepan, mix well, and leave it low. Be careful not to serve the cloves or cinnamon sticks.

Pomegranate Cosmo

Handful of ice cubes
5 parts Citron Vodka
1 part Lime Juice
1 part Triple Sec or Cointreau
1 part Pomegranate Juice

Combine everything in a cocktail shaker and give it a good shake. Strain and serve in a martini glass garnished with a twist of lime.

Pomegranate Sangria

1 bottle of red wine
12 oz Pomegranate Juice
1 cup of brandy
1 cup of orange liqueur (cointreau of grand marnier)
1 orange, sliced
1 apple, sliced
1 lime, sliced
12 ounces of club soda

Wash and slice the apple, orange, lime. Mix the wine, brandy, orange liqueur, pomegranate juice, and fruit. Chill overnight to let flavors deepen. Just before serving, add your chilled club soda to make it sparkle.

Pomegranate Mojito

2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
12 mint leaves
6 tablespoons white rum
1/4 cup pomegranate juice
1/8-1/4 fluid ounce soda water

Combine the sugar, lime juice and mint leaves in a tall glass then mash them with the back of a spoon. Mix in the rum and pomegranate juice. Pour the whole mess into a tall glass filled with ice and top it off with a splash of soda water.

Pomegranate Mimosa

1/2 oz. Pomegranate Juice
1 glass champagne
1/2 oz. Cointreau

Pour your champagne into a flute. Add the pomegranate juice and float the Cointreau on top. Perfect for New Years!

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry! That's what the holiday's scream right?

There's No Place Like Home!

Last weekend my best friends and I made an appearance at the one and only Loft in downtown Edmonds. Although I have to say we weren't there for their actual Happy Hour, the dessert, wine, and atmosphere is worth writing about.

Nestled along main street, The Loft Cafe and Social Lounge is a tiny little spot with, you guessed it, a unique loft area as well as a fun outdoor patio for some killer dance parties in the summer time!

Being one of the wonderful 20 degree November nights we have had this summer, we sat upstairs and enjoyed a glass of wine and split a few desserts.

By the looks of the plates, the chocolate cake and salted caramel ice cream sundaes were to die for!

The loft has such a unique atmosphere, lit by candlelight and dimmed chandeliers. A small neighborhood joint where you are sure to run into someone you know. A great Happy Hour as well with salads, small plates, and tons of drink specials!

So happy to be home for the holidays and visiting my favorite locals spots again with my fabulous friends!

Cheesecake? YUM YUM YUM

Ok, I know I have been super lame. It has been over a month since my last blog post and after everyone has continued to ask me when the next one would come, I finally gave in and went to Happy Hour last Thursday. No really, the truth is that I just haven't had time, but I have made it my goal to stay more on top of it!

Last Thursday I went to Happy Hour at Cheesecake Factory before heading over to the Paramount theater to see STOMP with Jeff, (which by the way was amazing!) We were just going for dinner but then when a table appeared at the bar and Happy Hour was on for another 20 minutes, it was calling our name!

They had so many specialty drinks for $5. I had J.W.'s Pink Lemonade which is a blend of citrus vodka, raspberry liquor, and fresh lemonade. Yes, it is as good as it sounds. Whoever J.W. is, you're a winner! Oh, and I forgot to mention that like all of their food, they don't cut you off on the portions. It was huge!

When it was time to order food, Jeff and I both order entrees from the menu without realizing that they had small plates in the bar, (which I would have much rather had).

Maybe it was just my blonde self not able to fully look through the menu, but my suggestion would be to maybe not stick the small plate options all the way on the back of the menu Cheesecake? Oh well, they all did look delicious so I am sure I will be back again in the near future to try some of them!

I am so happy to be back on Rainy Day Lemon Drop! Ask me to go out for Happy Hour so more posts can come your way soon!

Happy Birthday Kristin!

The girls and I got together to celebrate my friend Kristin's 22nd Birthday! Now that we have all reached 21, we could finally celebrate Kristin's birthday with her over drinks, (miss old and wise one.)

My beautiful friends!

We went to Joey Bellevue in, you guessed it, Bellevue. Once again, I can't comment enough on the convenience of free parking. It makes such a difference.

Besides their awesome food, (pretty much an endless possibility of entrees, I had the Chicken Tacos that were amazing,) they have an awesome drink deal. Now, its not your typical 3 PM to 5 PM Happy Hour, but SO MUCH BETTER! Joey's has 7 Days of Drinking where they have daily drink specials out of this world! Kristin's birthday feel on a Sunday, so everyone sipped on $2.99 Mojitos. DELICIOUS!

Anyone want to go to Joey's on a Wednesday with me for a Really Fuzzy Navel?

Beautiful Bellevue

My friends and I decided to start the school year off right by venturing over to Bellevue for Happy Hour at Palomino. With good friends, good drinks, and good food, it was definitely a night to remember.

Brittany and I both enjoyed our $5 Cranberry Mojito's and the rest of the crowd sipped on Pomegranate Margarita's.

Portions are always huge so it's a good idea to split food. I would highly recommend their pizza's or flat breads. So many great flavors, they smelled awesome! On this particular night, my friend and I split some crab dip and their famous Chop Chop Salad. SOOO GOOD!

The best part about Palomino's Happy Hour, it's 3:00 PM - Close every single day! And better yet, free parking in Bellevue makes it an even cheaper evening!

We will be sure to attend Palomino's Happy Hour again so please join us next time!

Icon Grill

Last week, I went downtown with Jeff to Icon Grill. It's located on the corner of 5th and Virginia and definitely worth the trip!

Amazing drink specials to say the least! I had an delicious Cosmo with grapefruit flavoring for $5, so you can imagine well drinks and beers were even cheaper. But the big show stopper was their food!

During their Happy Hour which runs 4 to 6 PM in the lounge, they have half price food! Yes, that does include their world-famous Mac N Cheese which I savored for the very first time. Included is an extra cup of warm melted cheese for maximum cheesiness!

You can easily split this beast between two people and then take half of the plate home for lunch the next day.

And finally, may I comment on their amazing desserts? Seriously just go for the sweets and skip the dinner. THEY HAVE HOT FUDGE SUNDAES WITH ALL THE TOPPINGS YOU CAN IMAGINE, and you know what a sucker I am for chocolate!

It's An Edmonds Kind of Happy Hour

As I blew out 21 Birthday candles on my cake at the beginning of the summer and began to explore the bars of the Seattle area, I thought a blog would be a great way to share with my family and friends all of the fun places I would explore and great Happy Hour deals I would find. Thus evolved Rainy Day Lemon Drop, A blog where I can share all of the happening spots in the Seattle area. You may see a post from me once a week or maybe once a month depending on where I may go but I hope you find them knowledgeable and of course entertaining!

So...to get things started, I thought I may share a bit about my first summer as a 21 year old.

I went to so many fun Happy Hours with girlfriends, mostly around Edmonds where I was living over the summer.

One great Happy Hour I can tell you about was at Epulo on Main Street.

My best friends and our Moms went out for an end of summer get together! Great deals on wine and well drinks and a fun quiet atmosphere. Also had some great small plates that could actually be split a few different ways. My mom and I shared an Angel Hair Pasta and most of my friends went GAGA over their fries.

Cute bistro, cheap wine = Edmonds Kind of Happy Hour. Some other great Happy Hours in Edmonds I recommend are: Red Twig adorable little cafe and outdoor seating is a plus. Also a great spot for a latte. The Loft, amazing pesto bruschetta, and last but not least, Arnies, half price bottles of wine, enough said.

It was a great summer, but as it comes to an end I do have to say I am excited to explore some more areas of Seattle.

Until next time, eat, drink and be merry!
